Islamabad 03/07/2025: Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid, joined a crucial meeting on Population Management chaired by Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal (Planning, Development & Special Initiatives) today. The meeting focused on Pakistan’s urgent challenge of rapid population growth.
Senator Rubina Khalid stressed the need for immediate, widespread awareness campaigns. “We must use platforms like the Ministry of Information to educate people nationwide,” she stated. She promised BISP’s full support for counseling and awareness drives, adding that the issue must be a top priority in Parliament and all public discussions.
The meeting, attended by WHO, Population Council, and Federal Ministers for Information and Religious Affairs, unanimously declared population growth a “national emergency.” All participants agreed on forming a high-level Commission led by the Prime Minister, with all Provincial Chief Ministers as members. This Commission will create a united strategy to manage population growth effectively.
Minister Ahsan Iqbal highlighted the economic and social risks of unchecked growth. Stakeholders emphasized that immediate action—through education, healthcare, and policy reforms—is essential for Pakistan’s future development.
